Presentation
Seizure.
Patient Data
Cerebrospinal fluid-filled cleft and lined by abnormal gray matter extending from the subarachnoid space of the frontoparietal region on the right down to the lateral ventricle is present. The grey matter is thickened and irregular along the cleft (polymicrogyria).
On the left an additional area of polymicrogyria is also noted without cleft.
Case Discussion
The recent patient was referred to us for brain MRI in view of the history of recurrent partial seizures for the last 8 months intractable to anticonvulsant sodium valproate. He had a history of a right-sided headache for the past 3 years which relieved after taking oral medications. Regarding the imaging findings, closed lip schizencephaly is diagnosed.
