Schwannoma - thoracic

Case contributed by David Holcdorf

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Female

Left lower zone mass with well defined lobulated contours. It blends/silhouettes with the left paravertebral stripe. No rib scalloping, destruction or splaying. The adjacent vertebrae are unremarkable.

Left paravertebral mass extending into and expanding the left T11/12 foramen has typical appearances of a neurogenic tumor such as schwannoma or neurofibroma.

Case Discussion

Silhouetting of the left lower zone mass with the left paravertebral stripe is suggestive of a posterior mediastinal pathology despite lack of rib changes.
