Schwannoma - thumb

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Complaining of right thumb swelling on ulnar aspect for last 2 months. There is no history of trauma/pain/tingling/loss of thumb movements.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

There is a well-defined lesion in the region of interest. It is on the ulnar side of the proximal phalanx. It measures about 13 x 12 x 11 mm. The lesion is homogeneously hypoechoic with posterior acoustic enhancement. There are no calcification / cystic changes. Vascularity is present. The lesion is separate from tendon / joint/digital nerve on palmer aspect. The digital nerve on dorsal aspect is abutting the lesion.

Case Discussion

An adult male presented a thumb swelling for last two months. Ultrasound revealed a solid lesion which was abutting dorsal digital nerve. Surgical excision was done and histopathology revealed schwannoma.
