Sciatic nerve injury

Presentation

Presented with left lower limb weakness. Three weeks prior to the presentation; the patient had left thigh stab injury. He was referred for an ultrasound of the sciatic nerve.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

There is echogenic fat at the site of the healed entry wound. Sciatic nerve shows a laceration with about 10 mm defect. A few medial most nerve fascicles show continuity. There is hematoma involving biceps femoris which is lateral to the sciatic nerve. There is hematoma involving adductor magnus muscle which is medial to the sciatic nerve.

Case Discussion

A young male presented with a history of a thigh stab wound and lower limb weakness. Ultrasound shows sciatic nerve injury with associated adjacent muscles injury.
