Presentation
Fever and tachypnea.
Patient Data
Small, hypoplastic right lung with ipsilateral mediastinal shift and blurring of the right heart border.
A curving tubular shadow is seen at the lower zone of the right lung paralleling the right heart border in the shape of a Turkish sword "Scimitar”.
Infiltration in the right middle and lower lung zones likely pneumonic in nature.
No pleural effusion.
Normal cardiomediastinal shadow is noted.
Case Discussion
This 5-months-old girl presented with fever and tachypnea, a chest x-ray was requested to evaluate her condition which demonstrated a combination of pulmonary hypoplasia and partial anomalous pulmonary venous return (PAPVR) the tubular structure at the lower zone of the right lung mimicking the Turkish sword "Scimitar". It almost exclusively occurs on the right side with the anomalous vein draining to the inferior vena cava (IVC) most commonly.
