Presentation

Left flank pain. CT with stone prtocol was performed.

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Male

A misty pattern of mesentery around the vessels suggesting sclerosing mesenteritis.

Other findings include absent right kidney and a left kidney cyst.

There is no stone in the urinary tract.

Case Discussion

Misty mesentery is relatively common and the incidence appears to be higher in those with higher BMI. Visceral adipose tissue may be a cause of inflammation. Other causes include edema, hemorrhage, inflammation and neoplasia. Sclerosing mesenteritis is an uncommon condition associated with pain and altered bowel habit.
