Sclerotic prostate metastases

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Small right pleural effusion. Lungs are clear. Normal cardiomediastinal contour.

Extensive sclerotic metastases involving the thoracic cage (e.g. anterior 4th and 5th ribs) and vertebral column (with ivory vertebrae).

Case Discussion

History of metastatic prostate cancer. These metastases are typically sclerotic and widespread. This case also demonstrates "ivory vertebrae" where there is dense sclerosis but no destruction of a vertebral body (prostate metastases is one of the causes).
