Follow-up X-ray after yet another 5 more weeks: proximal pole of scaphoid appears even denser than on previous study.
Case Discussion
Typical transverse fracture through the waist of the scaphoid on the initial x-ray. Progressive "sclerosis" of the proximal scaphoid pole together with signs of fracture healing on follow-up. Note reduction in bone density of all other bones of the wrist due to disuse. This proximal sclerosis does not necessarily mean that avascular necrosis is inevitable.
