Screw in bronchus

Presentation

Previously healthy child presented with cough after aspiration of screw.

Patient Data

Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Large radiodense screw is seen in the right main bronchus also extending to the bronchus intermedius.

No other gross abnormality: no evidence of pneumothorax, no evidence of air trapping, no pleural effusion, no air space consolidation.

Case Discussion

Choking, coughing, neck pain, or struggling to breathe are common presentations of an aspirated foreign body. The right main bronchus is the most common site of obstruction due to its larger lumen and more vertical orientation.
