Presentation
Young patient presented a painless swelling in the right side of the neck below the mandible angle, first noticed 7 days before.
Patient Data
Well defined oblique ovoid formation extending from the right mandible angle and carotid bifurcation to the medial part of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.
T1 WI shows the referred formation with hypointense signal.
STIR WI demonstrates the lesion with hyperintense signal.
T2 WI with fat saturation also shows hyperintense signal.
Case Discussion
This neck MRI demonstrates a right type 2 second branchial cleft cyst.
The second branchial cleft anomalies are the most frequently encountered congenital lesions of the head and neck among children and are related to the branchial or pharyngeal apparatus arches non-fusion or subinvolution during the embryological developmental process.
