Case Discussion

Patient was referred for a MRI of the elbow and orthopaedic referral. He was told not to pitch baseball any longer and rest his elbow.

This finding in an adolescent would be called a pitcher's elbow. Since he is an adult we call it secondary osteoarthritis of the elbow from repeated pitching.

It is very important to get an occupation history and athletic history in evaluating osteoarthritis in joints which are atypical for age and location.
