Presentation
Chronic right elbow pain. Patient used to throw baseballs every day to his son and do weightlifting.
Patient Data

Small joint effusion posteriorly, Subchondral cystic change, multiple spurs and narrowing of the joint space.

Severe degenerative changes of the right elbow with subchondral cystic changes, osteophyte formation, moderate joint effusion, full thickness tears involving the ulnar collateral ligament with ulnar neuropathy changes at the cubital tunnel.
Case Discussion
Patient was referred for a MRI of the elbow and orthopaedic referral. He was told not to pitch baseball any longer and rest his elbow.
This finding in an adolescent would be called a pitcher's elbow. Since he is an adult we call it secondary osteoarthritis of the elbow from repeated pitching.
It is very important to get an occupation history and athletic history in evaluating osteoarthritis in joints which are atypical for age and location.
