Presentation

Gustilo type II open fracture of the left lower leg after a motorcycle accident.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

Radiographs revealed a segmental fracture of the tibial shaft. There's also a fracture in the distal third of the fibular shaft.

Radiographs performed immediately post-op. The patient underwent open reduction and external fixation of the tibia. Anatomical reduction of the segmental fracture was not achieved.

Case Discussion

A segmental fracture is characterized by the presence of at least two fracture lines isolating a segment of a long bone.
