Presentation

Pain and swelling following a recent sports injury.

Patient Data

Age: 25
Gender: Male
X-ray

Small curvilinear bone fragment adjacent to the lateral aspect of the tibial plateau.

X-ray

Large joint effusion with lipohaemarthrosis. 

Case Discussion

Segond fracture is an avulsion fracture of the knee that involves the lateral aspect of the tibial plateau.  It is highly associated with anterior cruciate ligament injuries.
