Segond fracture

Unstable knee with pain and swelling following injury at netball.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female

Subtle avulsed cortical bone fragment along the lateral border of the lateral tibial plateau with surrounding soft tissue swelling seen on the coronal imaging. 

Note associated ACL disruption.

Case Discussion

A Segond fracture is not common, but if seen on MRI or plain films, in most cases it will indicate the presence of ACL rupture.
