Septate uterus

Presentation

Infertility. History of ectopic pregnancy.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female
Fluoroscopy

Hysterosalpingography

There are two endometrial cavities with a large intercornual distance.

MRI

Pelvis

MRI shows a fibromuscular septum dividing the uterine cavity. There is no fundal cleft.

Incidental left ovarian hemorrhagic cyst with fluid level showing dependent low signal fluid content.

Case Discussion

In this case, even though HSG showed a large interconuate distance, which is more common in bicornuate uterus. MRI showed a fibromuscular septum dividing the uterine cavity and no fundal cleft consistent with a septate uterus.

MRI is considered the current imaging modality of choice in the differentiation between bicornuate and septate uterus.
