Septic arthritis - neonate

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Fever, left hip redness, swelling and loss of movement for a week.

Patient Data

Age: 27 days
Gender: Male
mri

Left hip effusion. Edema in the muscles of the left hip and thigh.

No bone changes that would suggest osteomyelitis.

No evidence of bony destruction.

The findings are consistent with septic arthritis of the left hip.

The right hip appears normal.

Case Discussion

This is a 27-day-old boy, presented with low-grade fever, left hip redness and swelling with loss of function. Arthrocentesis of the joint demonstrated typical findings of septic arthritis, and MRI was requested to evaluate the extent of the infection.
