Sesamoid ossicle of nuchal ligament

Vague neck pain. No history of trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male

At C5/C6 level there is a well corticated osseous focus, suggestive of a sesamoid ossicle of the nuchal ligament.

Anterior vertebral body osteophyte seen at C4 and C5 levels.

Case Discussion

Sesamoid ossicles of the nuchal ligament are anatomical variants. The primary role of the radiologist is to exclude an avulsion fracture of spinal process.
