Shotgun wound to the chest

Presentation

Penetrating trauma to the chest two years ago. After the elimination of hemothorax and pneumothorax it was decided not to remove foreign body. Now presents with a one month history of hemoptysis.

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

A metallic foreign body, spherical in shape, lies near the left pulmonary hilum. No surrounding pulmonary contusion or pneumothorax.

During surgery, the erosion of the foreign body (bullet) into the left lower lobe superior segment was diagnosed.  The gunshot pellet was identified and removed.
