Presentation
Pain and swelling at the left submandibular region, increasing while eating for the last seven days.
Patient Data
Enlargement, echotexture heterogeneity, and increased blood flow in the left submandibular gland.
Hyperecogenic nodules with posterior acoustic shadow - corresponding to calculi - along the left submandibular duct, causing its dilatation due to obstructive effect.
Enlargement and attenuation heterogeneity of left submandibular gland.
Hyperdense formations in sublingual topography along the left submandibular duct.
Calculus on left sublingual papilla.
Case Discussion
Physical examination, ultrasound and CT scan confirm acute sialadenitis secondary to calculi.
Due to its long path and gravity issues, the submandibular gland is the most affected by sialolithiasis and its secondary inflammation.
