Presentation
Back pain.
Patient Data
Diffuse reduced marrow signal of the examined bones, consistent with hyperplastic hematopoietic red marrow conversion.
Biconcave appearance of the vertebral bodies.
Multiple lumbar vertebral vertical geographic bands of abnormal signal eliciting low signal on T1 and high signal on T2 WI with central small areas of persistent low signal which tend to involve the anterior 1/2 of the vertebral body, suggestive of bone infarcts.
Radiological findings are suggestive of blood disease
Case Discussion
The radiological findings are suggestive of a hematological disorder. Upon further questioning of the patient, he mentioned he was diagnosed with sickle cell disease in childhood.
