Complete bowel obstruction secondary to a proximal sigmoid circumferential lesion, suspicious for malignancy.
Case Discussion
The case demonstrates a CT correlation for the 'apple core sign'. This classic radiographic appearance is named from the distinctive appearance of a short annular constricting mass on a fluoroscopic barium enema. Most of these short annular masses are now detected on CT.
The obstructing mass was surgically resected and histologically proven to be adenocarcinoma.
