Presentation

Abdominal pain and tender left lower quadrant.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male
  • inflammatory fat stranding around an anteriorly protruding proximal sigmoid colonic diverticulum
  • adjacent peritoneal thickening
  • small locules of extraluminal gas along the anterior peritoneal lining

Case Discussion

CT findings are consistent with perforated sigmoid colonic diverticulitis. The patient in this case proceeded to surgical intervention with a Hartmann procedure.
