Sigmoid volvulus

Acute left hemi-abdominal pain for four days.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
  • Coffee bean sign is seen in the topogram.
  • In CT images large gas-filled loop is seen (the sigmoid colon- 12 cm in diameter) lacking haustra, forming a closed-loop obstruction.
  • whirl sign┬áis present evident by twisting of the mesentery and mesenteric vessels

No discreet mass lesion. No bowel perforation. Rest of the bowel loops are normal.
