Sigmoid volvulus in pregnancy (MRI)

28/40 pregnant. Abdominal pain and acute distension.

Patient Data

Gender: Female

Free fluid throughout the abdominal cavity. Twisting of the sigmoid in the lower abdomen, just left lateral to the uterus, with dilatation of the sigmoid loop and the transverse and ascending colon more proximally. No small bowel dilatation.

Case Discussion

The patient underwent repeat detorsion via a flexible sigmoidoscope on two occasions, followed by a semi elective C-section at 38 weeks. There is no more follow-up available.
