CT paranasal sinuses

Enlargement of the left middle nasal meatus with the collapse of the medial wall of the left maxillary sinus and compression of the infundibulum with maxillary sinus outlet obstruction; associated with a lowered orbital floor, increased orbital volume and flattening of the malar eminence.

Case Discussion

Silent sinus syndrome is characterized by progressive adult-onset enophthalmos and is due to the collapse of one or all of the maxillary sinus walls.

Progressive enophthalmos is sometimes associated with cheek pain, diplopia and blurred vision.
