Silicone embolization from intraocular implant

Case contributed by Anil Geetha Virupakshappa

Headache and dizziness for three months.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

CT plain study demonstrating the silicone embolization into frontal horns of both lateral ventricles from previous intraocular implant. Also, note the interval defect at the posterior aspect of the implant.

Previous CT 4 years back was normal with an intact intraocular implant.

Case Discussion

It's a rare complication of intraocular endotamponade with silicone oil due to the migration of this material along the optic nerve. Not to confuse with intraventricular hemorrhage, as it is non-dependent.
