Simple breast cyst

Case contributed by Dr Henry Knipe

Palpable right breast lump.

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Female
Modality: Mammography

Large well circumscribed mass in the right outer breast centrally.

Modality: Ultrasound

Hypoechoic mass without vascularity. On real time imaging the flowing internal echogenicity was present.

Modality: Ultrasound

The lesion was aspirated to dryness using a 19G needle with approximately 5 mL of yellow fluid aspirated.

Case Discussion

Typical appearance of a breast on ultrasound that was aspirated to dryness. On the mammogram the appearances are of a well-circumscribed mass, and a diagnosis of breast cyst cannot be made and further work-up is indicated.
