Sinding-Larsen-Johansson disease

Presentation

Adolescent football player. Ongoing infrapatellar knee pain associated with on-and-off overlying soft tissue swelling. No history of trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 13 years
Gender: Male
X-ray

Calcification of proximal insertion of patellar tendon, best appreciated on lateral view. Mild overlying soft tissue swelling.

No fracture or dislocation. No joint effusion.

Case Discussion

Sinding-Larsen-Johansson disease typically causes infrapatellar knee pain in active adolescent male patients. 

It is considered to be the paediatric version of "jumper's knee".
