Presentation

Degenerative joint disease. History of recurrent pain at the patellar apex since childhood.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

Small ossicle within the patellar ligament near the apex.

Case Discussion

This finding in adults is usually indicative of a healed traction apophysitis of the patellar apex (Sinding-Larsen-Johansson disease).
