Situs inversus

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

HIV positive.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Right sided cardiac apex. Right sided descending aorta.

Stomach gas under right hemidiaphragm.

ultrasound

Liver is on left side. 

Spleen is on right side.

Inverse relationship of aorta and inferior vena cava.

Inverse relationship of superior mesenteric artery and vein.

Case Discussion

Findings favor situs inversus.

Patient was operated on for emergency appendicetomy for about 25 years previously. There were two scars in lower abdomen - right iliac fossa and in midline infra-umbilical region. At that time patient was diagnosed with situs inversus.
