Skull fracture in a toddler - suspected non-accidental injury

Case contributed by Dr Chris O'Donnell

Mother noticed boggy swelling in scalp.

Patient Data

Age: 11 months
Gender: Male

A skull fracture traversing the lambdoid suture in a child of this age (barely walking) is unusual and together with the absence of an appropriate history from the parents, concerning for non-accidental injury. The boggy swelling indicated in the clinical notes is scalp hematoma associated with the fracture.
