Nondisplaced vertical left parietal fracture.
Enlarged bifrontal subarachnoid space and sylvian cisterns, most probably representing benign enlargement of subarachnoid spaces (BESS).
Case Discussion
Fell out of a carry-cot it from a low height, bumped her head, and sustained a nondisplaced left parietal fracture.
There are two things to consider here:
- despite the telltale scalp haematoma in this case, nondisplaced skull fractures in infants can readily be missed due to the abundance of sutures. A 3D rendering of the skull can increase diagnostic confidence 1.
- one should keep in mind that if the fracture involves a venous sinus, it can predispose to venous sinus thrombosis 2,3.
