Skull vault hemangioma

Case contributed by Chris O'Donnell
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Incidental finding in an elderly patient who had a fall and presented to the ED.

Patient Data

Age: 85 years
Gender: Female
ct

Typical expansile mass in the skull vault with "sunray" trabecular pattern seen nicely on the axial slice.

Case Discussion

These lesions are benign and an incidental finding that should not be confused with a metastatic lesion (will not have a sunray appearance) or Paget disease (starts at the skull base, not the vertex as in most hemangiomas).
