Small aneurysmal bone cyst of the rib

Case contributed by Dr Roberto Schubert

Lytic lesion of the left 11th rib found in a trauma setting.

Patient Data

Age: 50
Gender: Female
Sligtly expansive radiolucency in the lateral 11th rib.

The lesion is smoothly marginated, bright on T2 and dark on T1. After Gd, it shows peripheral rim enhancement.

Case Discussion

Findings are consistent with an aneurysmal bone cyst, which occurs rarely  in ribs, but is the top differential when the criteria of a cyst are fulfilled, as in this case.
