Presentation
Intermittent lower abdominal pain for 3 weeks with loose stools and vomiting. 10kg weight loss in the last few months.
Patient Data
Multiple dilated loops of small bowel containing fluid and gas noted throughout the abdomen.
There is narrowing of the cecal lumen with irregular circumferential thickening, which is likely the transition point of partial small bowel obstruction. The thickening extends into the terminal ileum.
Ill-defined hypodensities are seen throughout the liver, suggestive of metastases.
Case Discussion
Colorectal carcinoma is an important cause of bowel obstruction. This patient presented with a small bowel obstruction due to the location of the tumor. The patient was transferred for right hemicolectomy.
Histology: mucinous adenocarcinoma
