Nausea, vomiting, poor oral intake
Patient Data
Small bowel obstruction with numerous loops of small bowel in right abdominal cavity. Note that the duodenum does not cross midline but turns back into the right abdomen. Mesenteric root is also deviated to the right.
There is a transition point (axial, coronal, sagittal) in the central abdomen.
Only apparent on the lung window are numerous low-density structures within the lumen of the small bowel. One of these is at the transition point.
Case Discussion
Patient underwent laparoscopy and mini-laparotomy which found SBO due to food bolus which was manually milked into the cecum. Patient made good post operative recovery.
On questioning, the patient reported eating half a bag of dried apricots shortly prior to developing symptoms.
