Small bowel obstruction secondary to entrapment in laparoscopic port site hernia
Presentation
Recent ovarian cystectomy. Increasing abdominal pain and distension.
Patient Data
There are several loops of small bowel distended with gas within the upper and mid abdomen, with a paucity of gas in the large bowel.
Multiple distended loops of small bowel with a transition point in the midline of the anterior abdominal wall adjacent to the umbilicus. Edema of the abdominal wall is present. A small volume of free abdominal fluid is present, no free gas. No signs of bowel ischemia. A soft tissue density "mass" in the right hemipelvis is likely a post-operative hematoma.
Case Discussion
Herniation of small bowel through a laparoscopic port site has led to acute high-grade small bowel obstruction. At surgery, the hernia was reduced with an abdominal wall repair.
