Elevated bony growth at posterior edge of superior surface of olecranon process, at the insertion point of triceps.
No overlying soft tissue swelling or calcification.
No fracture. No lytic lesion.
Joint spaces maintained.
Articular margins regular.
Case Discussion
While the anatomical appearance in this case is plainly of a bony projection or spur, presence of overlying soft tissue swelling would suggest underlying tendinopathy or bursitis.
Olecranon spurs, in general, are vulnerable to fracture, due to the elbow being frequently pressed against handrests or tables, and must be carefully searched for on imaging. However, it is too small in the present case, and may only be a cause of discomfort as long as it does not enlarge.
