Presentation
Motorcycle accident. Polytrauma patient. Open left elbow fracture. Left wrist deformity upon physical examination.
Patient Data

Wrist radiographs revealed an extra-articular fracture of the distal radius with volar displacement. This describes a Smith fracture.

Radiographs performed immediately post-op. The patient underwent open reduction and internal fixation with volar plating of the radius.
Case Discussion
Distal radius fractures are some of the most common fractures of the skeleton.
Many eponyms are used to describe common patterns of these fractures.
One of these eponyms is the Smith fracture, which describes an extra-articular distal metaphyseal fracture of the radius with volar displacement.
