Palpable painless mass in the left lower lumbar region.
Patient Data
There is a well-circumscribed ovoid mass deeply located in the subcutaneous fat of the left lower lumbar region with no fatty interface with the adjacent latissimus dorsi and external oblique muscles. It shows two components:
- a central component of low signal on T1, mixed heterogeneous signal on T2 with enhancing mural nodules which show a restricted diffusion
- a peripheral component of isosignal to the muscles on T1, iso-to slight high signal on T2 with restricted diffusion and heterogeneous enhancement on the post-contrast sequences.
Case Discussion
MRI features of a malignant soft tissue mass deeply located in the subcutaneous fat of the left lower lumbar region, histologically proven as a fibrosarcoma.
Adult fibrosarcomas are rare, and highly aggressive fibroblastic malignant soft tissue tumors. They account around 1% of soft tissue sarcomas. Usullay seen in middle-aged people within the 4th and 7th decade of life.
