Soft tissue foreign body - arm region

History of penetrating injury by metal debris in deltoid region - about 5 - 6 years back. Complaining of local swelling for a few days.

Patient Data

Age: about 35 yrs
Gender: Male

There is a linear echogenic structure at site of swelling pointed by patient - Foreign body.

Length                         - about 14 mm

Thickness                    - about 3 mm

Superficial end            - lies in subcutaneous fat.

Deeper end                  - lies in deltoid muscle.

There is thin hypoechoic rim around foreign body - granulation.

There is no local collection.

Dopplar                       - Twinkle artifact is noted due to irregular surface of foreign body.     

Case Discussion

Findings favor foreign body in soft tissue of arm. It was removed surgically. It was a metal foreign body.
