Soft tissue venous malformation - foot

Presentation

Pain on planter aspect of foot under 5th metatarsal bone in weight bearing position - few wks. C/o local swelling. No trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 50 yrs
Gender: Male
ultrasound

There is a well-defined, lobulated lesion in region of interest.

Location      : 

It is on planter, lateral, dorsal aspect of 5th metatarsal distal shaft - neck region; extending to dorsal aspect of 4th intermetatarsal space. However, it does not extend to 4th inter-metataral space. It abutts 5th metatarsal cortex without eroding it. There is no intra-articular extension.

Size             : about 55 x 20 x 15 mm             

Morphology : 

Lobulated, significantly compressible, anechoic with lucunar like spaces / serpentine spaces without calcification. Lesions shows arterial as well as venous flow signals. There are multiple venous channels proximal to lesion.

Case Discussion

Adult male presented with swelling around 5th metatarsal associated with pain in weight bearing position. Ultrasound shows features of slow flow vascular malformation in soft tissue abutting 5th metatarsal bone.
