Solitary fibrous tumor of the dura

Presentation

Presents with new headaches, severe and localized to the right temporal region associated with vomiting.

Patient Data

Age: 25
Gender: Male

Large, bilobed extra-axial mass in the right temporo-occipital region. The mass has heterogenous signal on T1, mildly high signal on T2, facilitated diffusion and avid, relatively homogeneous enhancement. Multiple prominent vessels within and around the margins of the mass. Surrounding edema and significant associated mass effect with right to left subfalcine herniation, early right uncal herniation and compression of the right cerebellar hemisphere.

Case Discussion

The patient proceeded to surgical resection, complicated by significant intra-operative hemorrhage. 

Final diagnosis: Hemangiopericytoma, WHO Grade 2 (WHO 2016)
