Solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura - malignant

Presentation

Right scapular pain.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

Right mid-zone opacity, localizing to the posterior chest wall on the lateral. Erosion of the inferior aspect of the right 7th rib posteriorly. 

Heterogeneously enhancing right posterior pleural or extrapleural mass measuring up to 6 cm. Erosion of the inferior border of the 7th rib and superior border of the 8th rib. No further pleural mass. No calcified pleural plaques. No pleural effusion. No pulmonary nodule or mass. No enlarged lymph nodes. 

Case Discussion

The patient underwent thoracotomy and resection of the mass and adjacent ribs with a malignant solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura subsequently diagnosed.
