Presentation

25 year old pregnant woman came for an antenatal ultrasound due to absent fetal movements at 28 weeks of gestation.

Axial 2D ultrasound image of fetal head showing overlapping of the fetal skull bones caused by collapse of the fetal brain.

Case Discussion

The Spalding sign refers the overlapping of the fetal skull bones caused by collapse of the fetal brain.  It appears usually a week or more after fetal death in utero.
