Spinal and pulmonary tuberculosis

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Chronic back pain, back deformity with cough and low grade fever. Paraplegia for one month.

Patient Data

Age: 17 years
Gender: Male

Marrow infiltration of T8-T10 vertebral bodies with destruction of the bodies of T9-T10 vertebrae and the relevant inter-vertebral disc resulting in Gibbus deformity of the dorsal spine.

Large pre-vertebral, epidural and intra-osseous abscess formation.

The large epidural abscess is resulting in compression of the cord. 

Numerous nodular opacities scattered in both lungs.

Case Discussion

The overall imaging features are very much in favor of tuberculous spondylodiscitis associated with pulmonary tuberculosis.
