Spinal cord astrocytoma

Presentation

Dorsal scoliosis. MRI to rule out spinal cord lesion.

Patient Data

Age: 7 years
Gender: Female
MRI

The MRI sequences demonstrate diffuse swelling of the spinal cord with multiple cystic lesions within, extending from the bulbo-medullary junction up to the conus medullaris of low signal on T1WI high signal on T2WI with peripheral irregular enhancement mainly from T1 level to the conus medullaris. The solid component is well-visualized from T3 to T6 level with intense and relatively enhancement. 

Note dorsal scoliosis of left-sided convexity with no vertebral anomalies.

Case Discussion

MRI features of an intramedullary tumor involving the entire spinal cord (holocord presentation) corresponding probably to an astrocytoma (diffuse or pilocytic).
