Spinal dural arteriovenous fistula

Case contributed by Monica Morales Monzón
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Immobility and lack of sensitivity of lower limbs and sphincter dysfunction.

Patient Data

Age: 1 year
Gender: Female

Spinal canal is observed up to the level of T12.

Prominent serpentine extramedullary flow spaces are observed, compatible with dilated tortuous veins that surround the cord and that, starting at T12, occupy the entire space of the dural sac.

In the T2 sequences, some areas of diffuse intramedullary hyperintensity of multiple levels compatible with edema are observed.

Furthermore, generalized thickening of the urinary bladder wall was found, in relation to changes due to neurogenic bladder.

Case Discussion

The patient was taken to the operating room, confirming the diagnosis of multiple dilated vascular structures within the dural sac compatible with spinal dural arteriovenous fistula.
