Presentation

A female patient diagnosed with left breast moderately differentiated invasive ductal carcinoma 5 years ago.

Patient Data

Age: 50-year-old
Gender: Female
mri

Intraspinal, intradural, extramedullary well defined abnormal signal intensity mass, appears of intermediate signal intensity on T1, heterogeneous high signal intensity on T2 with avid post contrast enhancement.

It is seen opposite S2 vertebral body with scalloping and widening of the corresponding right exit neural foramen.

Case Discussion

Spinal schwannoma is a tumor of benign nature arising from Schwann cells around the nerve roots. it is classically appears as intradural extramedullary mass which can grow to extend through the exit neural foramina giving the characteristic dumbbell shape.
