Presentation
Occipital headaches with numbness of the left side of the neck
Patient Data
There is a well-circumscribed intra-dural extra-medullary dumbbell shaped mass, extending through a widened left C2-C3 exit foramen, along with the C3 nerve root. It appears of low signal intensity on T1WI, high signal intensity on T2WI with intense and heterogeneous enhancement following IV contrast as well as an increased anterior epidural enhancement well-visualized on postcontrast sagittal T1WI fat sat, mimicking a dural tail sign. The adjacent segment of the spinal cord is compressed and displaced to the right with no sign of myelopathy. Associated adjacent bony remodeling is noted.
Case Discussion
MRI features suggestive of a spinal schwannoma
Schwannomas are usually indistinguishable from neurofibromas.
